Travelling like a 'Local'?
I've heard this phrase pretty often in the travel related subreddits and have been giving it some thought. After thinking about it, I'm still not sure what travelling like a local exactly entails, so here I am.
What exactly is travelling like a 'local'?
I get that some parts of it are obvious, such as avoiding tourist traps and scams. It's also easier to understand when you're travelling to countries with a very different culture.
But the confusion (at least for me) starts when I see travelers from Western countries, travelling to other Western countries. I'm Dutch and if I would travel to Berlin for example, what would travelling like a local be like? If I would want to get a feel of Berlin, I'd have to visit things like the Brandenburger Tor, Berlin Wall, etc. But that is also a touristy thing to do. How do I act like a local in such situations?
Help me out /r/solotravel :D
