First Time Costa Rica Trip | April 5th - 16th
Hi guys!
Firstly, thanks for taking a few minutes out to help a homie out. I'll be flying into San Jose and heading straight to Montezuma afterwards using a rental 4v4, staying there for 4 nights - then heading to Arenal/Fortuna for 3 days. Puerto Viejo for 3 days before heading back to San Jose to fly out. In terms of specific activities in each location, I haven't penned in yet but I like pretty much all outdoor activities so wouldn't be hard to pinpoint it as the trip nears. I also have been thinking of swapping PV with Jaco as it would aesthetically/financially be more efficient.
These activities include :
- Any power sports - Motorcycles/Dirt bikes/Quads ( I've been riding motorcycles for over 5 years), Jet Skis etc
- Hike and bike, and i feel majority of it will be done around the Arenal/Fortuna area
- I plan on snorkeling and trying out scuba diving for the first time ( I have over 15 years experience snorkeling, all of it being in the Red Sea/ Mediterranean during my summers. )
- Kayaking/White water rafting and zip-lining
- Will try out surfing for the first time
Some things about me
- 27M 6'1
- r/solotravel Lurker
- I am coming by myself
- I work out regularly so have very good stamina for swimming or anything physically demanding
- Am American, with very little Spanish but i often get that I look Dominican and people regularly come up to me speaking Spanish
Questions for the CR experts
1) Would a budget of $700-$1000 USD be sufficient to account for accommodation ( haven't looked in detail, but aiming for hostels for the better experience, unless hotels have exactly the same culture), food, activities, and vehicle rental + gas?
2) Would you condense the trip to fit more activities spread out over more days at less locations, if so which?
3) Are google map times generally accurate, or for taken with precaution suited for an 75 year old person?
4) I love manual cars and feel the 4x4 should be so, but would you recommend against and why?
5) Things to look out for? Im not talking about petty robberies, I was in Barcelona last October and out of a group of 3 friends, my friends got their phones stolen presumably because they are white. As mentioned before for my physical features.
6) Any other locations I have not mentioned that would comfortably fit into my itinerary?
7) Other recommendations/ factors to consider?
