Bed Bugs. Did I do this right?

So I’m traveling in South Africa right now and while lying on a bed in my hotel room I saw what I think is a bed bug on my day pack (which was on the bed).

I don’t have a pic unfortunately but I picked it up with some toilet paper and put it in the sink. I’m 90% sure it was.

So after that I alerted the hotel staff and they while very helpful, didn’t really understand the seriousness of the situation.

They gave me another room, and access to their dryer. I put all my clothes, (which were in packing cubes) including the ones I was wearing, my day pack, and any other fabric type material item into the dryer for 30 min. I set the dryer to hot however when it was done, it didn’t feel like it got that hot. I could not put my actually bag (was also sitting on bed) an Osprey 55, in the dryer because it wouldn’t fit.

I did NOT put items with a synthetic plasticy type fabric (think tent material), into the dryer. Not sure if I should have.

Right now I’m in my new room, re-packed, with my bags on the floor.

My main concern is taking bugs and eggs home with me. I have one more hostel to stay at which I’ll travel to tomorrow before going home 4 days later.

Is there anything else I can do? Should I put everything in the dryer once I get home?

How concerned should I be after seeing just one bug (The mattress underside looked really clean otherwise).
