Stories from the destinations other people don't think about?

This summer I'm taking a quick solo trip up to North Dakota for a couple of nights; just to camp and hike, maybe do a little bit of cycling. When I told this to a buddy he thought this was a strange plan. To be fair, he has a point. It's a nine hour drive, North Dakota doesn't have the best reputation, and it's America's least visited state.None of this deters me but it definitely got me thinking about visiting the places that don't even occur to my friends and co-workers. Anyone else have a good story from somewhere that makes others scratch their heads? Any upcoming trips to a seemingly wacky destination? via /r/solotravel http://bit.ly/2L9SHVJ
