Just finished my first solo trip, and it was such an incredible experience.

I know posts like these show up often, but I couldn’t help but share my experience. I literally just got back into the US after 23 days in Ecuador (still sitting in LAX waiting for my flight home), and I wish I could have stayed longer. Leaving the states, I was a bit nervous. I’ve done international trips with friends or family before, but this was my first time going alone, and I don’t speak the language of the country I was headed to. Within two days of getting to Ecuador I knew I was going to love my trip. The freedom of being alone and making decisions only for myself without having to worry about pleasing other people was so freeing. I did whatever I wanted, whether that was submitting mountains, swimming under waterfalls, or doing nothing but sit on the beach all day. For anyone on the fence about traveling solo, I say do it. This was hands down my favorite trip I’ve been on.

Side note: Ecuador is amazing. The country is quite small and has so much to offer, from the Andes, to the jungle, and of course the coast. I highly recommend Cuyabeno, Quilotoa Lake, Banos, and Montanita. Also, easily the most beautiful hostel I have ever stayed at was Secret Garden Hostel Cotopaxi, if you find yourself in Ecuador you would be dumb to not stay in this hostel.
