Help understanding money exchange
Having some trouble understanding exchanging money from Thai baht to Indian rupees. I'm currently at the airport in Thailand ready to go to India and I want to exchange 10,000 Thai baht to Indian rupees. I look up the exchange rate and see that it's a about 21,000 Indian rupees for that amount of Thai baht. I go up to the bank counter and they offer me 16,000 rupees. Am I missing something here? There is a huge difference (about 100+ USD) in these rates. Normally I just exchange at my destination and have no problem. Why is the rate I'm seeing on Google so different than the rate that two different banks at the airport are offering me? What do my fellow solo travellers suggest I do? Using my card abroad isn't an option because my bank locks my card at every available opportunity and I'm getting really tired of calling them to rectify it while I'm travelling so I figured I would travel with cash instead. What gives?
