Need advice for first daddy-daughter camping trip with 5 year old
I've got a five year old daughter that has been absolutely obsessed with camping for awhile. We've done one camp-out in semi-woodsy area of our property, but were still within a few hundred yards of the house if something came up.
With the solar eclipse next week being fairly close to us, but also being that we live near a semi-major highway to a viewing area, I am planning to camp out Sunday night very close to the path of totality so we have minimal distance to travel on the day-of. My daughter is thrilled but I'm still nervous about taking her.
This won't be back woods by any means. We'll be at an established campground at a lake. However, since it's my first time out camping with my daughter, I just want to get feedback from this community's experience on stuff I'm likely to forget or not consider when camping with a young kid.
In addition to standard camping gear, here's the "extras" I've thought of:
- There is a shower house/bathroom in the area so potty breaks are not a concern (I'll bring TP).
- Kid-specific things in the first aid kit: Elsa bandages for any particularly egregious cuts or scrapes, and children's motrin
- Hydrocortisone for bug bites
- Extra hair ties in case she manages to lose a pony tail holder
- Plenty of books for stories by flashlight in the tent
What am I missing that I won't think of until I'm an hour from home?
