Advice on Guatemala (25f)
Hey everyone! You all have been so helpful on my previous trips, but I was hoping for some advice on Guatemala. I think (haven't book tickets yet) I will be going there at the end of May for 5 full days. My tentative plan is to stay in a hostel around Lake Atitlan the whole time, with some day trips . My questions are:

Should I be breaking up my trip and doing a few days at Lake Atitlan and a few days somewhere else? I'm going to avoid Guatemala City, for sure. I've heard mixed reviews for Antigua.

How safe is it for a solo female traveler? I'm a big hiker, and I want to spend at least two days hiking. Do I need to pay a guide/guard to come with me? Are hikes usually done in groups?

I've been using Duolingo for about six months, which is to say my Spanish is pretty terrible, especially when listening/speaking. How much of a burden will this be?
I've solotraveled before, but only to English speaking countries, so I'm a bit nervous! Any advice would be great, thanks!
