Hostels in Bogota. La Candelaria or Chapinero?
I have a 4 day solo stopover in Bogota next July on the way to Peru where I'll be doing the Inca Trail to Machu Piccu. I'm arriving on a Saturday morning, and leaving on Wednesday. I chose Bogota primarily as a way to acclimate to a higher altitude before Cusco/Inca Trail. It's also my first time in Colombia, so I'm interested in doing some of the touristy things in La Candelaria (Gold Museum, Monserrate, etc), as well as meeting some cool people, eating some good Colombian food, and experiencing the local culture. I've been reading that it's not too safe to stay in La Candelaria at night though, and there's better food/nightlife in Chapinero which is safer. I'll probably go out Saturday night, but I'm mostly looking to take it easy so I'm in good shape for the hike in Peru, so not looking for a crazy party hostel. I'm looking for something in a convenient location that's both social & comfy.
So far I've narrowed it down to the following:
1) Botanico Hostel Bogota - located in La Candelaria
2) Masaya Hostel Bogota - also in La Candelaria
3) Aurora Hostel - located in Chapinero
Any thoughts/suggestions? Alternatives?
