Will be in Ecuador from 12/26 to 1/30
Bought myself a ticket to Ecuador before I start a full-time job. I will be flying into Guayaquil, and intend on spending at least 10 days traveling around by bus, 4 days sailing in Salinas (I'm a competitive sailor on the Great Lakes -- if you know any good sailing spots outside of Salinas, let me know!), and 4 days in Cuenca. Currently looking at rides to the Galapagos for at least 10 days.
As this is a little ways out, I don't have a concrete schedule yet (and probably won't, as I have the ability to couch surf in Salinas and Cuenca, so I can be flexible). What are some "Do's and Don'ts", some necessary stops, and some advice that you might have? I'm a sucker for local foods, and most searches I perform bring up paid content in regards to each city's food mecca -- first hand experience would be appreciated!
I have 5 years of formal Spanish experience, but I will need to practice conversational Spanish with some local friends prior to the trip. My budget is $1,000 (because I will only be staying in hostels 1/4 of the time), but I will have $2,500 in case I decide to ball out or life takes an unexpected turn. God bless the lack of exchange related issues!
Hit me with it!
