Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin?

I'm planning a solo trip to Paris in April to run the marathon! I'll be there for 8 days (will probably take a few day trips, but I prefer to spend good chunks of time in one city to really get a sense of the culture).
I think I'll extend my trip 4 nights and squeeze in one more city, and my top choices right now are Amsterdam and Berlin. I feel like I'm leaning more towards Berlin (I'm a huge history nerd and Berlin in particular fascinates me) but I've heard Amsterdam is amazing and beautiful especially in the spring time. The one thing that's keeping me from committing to Berlin is the nightlife - I'm not super into techno / clubbing (a chill bar scene is more my vibe) - and I've heard that's a huge part of Berlin's young culture.
- What recommendations do you have for Paris? What neighborhoods are best for solo travelers? (note: I'd like to stay in Airbnbs, probably not hostels)
- What would you suggest - Amsterdam or Berlin? How friendly are the people / how easy is it to meet new people? Would I still have a blast in Berlin if I don't want to go clubbing?
