First Trip Recommendations for 2 weeks in Europe
I've been lurking in this subreddit for a while and never left the US (23M), now I'm planning a two week solo trip around Europe next month! Fortunately I'm traveling to London the first week of October for work, so the flights to/from the US are covered. I'm planning on taking off two weeks after London to see as much as I can while I'm there. I'm more inclined to see scenic views (mountains, beaches, etc.) and eat some great food than see huge cities. I need to roughly plan an agenda for Saturday Oct 9th - Thursday Oct 21th (beginning and ending in London).
Here's a rough outline of my initial plan, I'd love some recommendations.
- Oct 9th to 11th - Train from London to Edinburgh. Play golf at whatever nice course I can find a tee time, find places to try some Scotch, go on some short hikes (no idea where yet).
- Oct 11th to 14th - Fly to Barcelona, explore the city and beaches. What else do I need to do here?
- Oct 14th to 17th - Take a train through northern Spain, southern France, and northern Italy to Switzerland. Need to decide where to stop along the way, so far just decided on Nice but looking for recommendations. Take in the views, relax on some beaches, do some hiking along the coast.
- Oct 17th - 20th - Visit Lucerne, hike around Lauterbrunnen, take the Glacier Express. I'm actually most excited about this part of the trip because of the scenery, I might cut out a handful of days from other parts to spend more time here.
- Oct 20th - 21st - Fly back to London for my return flight in the afternoon.
I'd appreciate any tips or recommendations. I've never left the US to I'm open to anything. I'm worried that I'm trying to see too many places at once. I thought about spending the first half in Scotland/Ireland and the second half in Switzerland, but I think I'd still really like to see the beaches along the Mediterranean in Spain and France. Thanks in advance!
