As your income increases, does your method of travel change?
I'm reaching my late 30's and there's some facets of travel that even though I am now able to afford, feel like it might be unnecessary. I'm now able to splurge on 4 star hotels in some of the most expensive cities to visit but still find myself grappling with the fact that it's truly unnecessary. While I do value peace, privacy and location of utmost importance, being able to save even $50 a night is a sound decision to me. I can however do without drunk adolescents and properties that ran out of hot water in the mornings.
It's easy enough to splurge in other aspects of my life (dining, clothes, etc) but when it comes to travel lodging, somewhere my principles are hard to break. Do any of you come across this challenge and if so, how do you break it? (Other than telling yourself you work hard and you deserve it). I'll I really look forward to is a clean room with a decent bed and a working bathroom.
In the past, I would frequent hostels, 8 bed dormitories, small b&bs all on the cheap. Learning what the best ear plugs and eye masks can do to a restful sleep has enabled me to withstand some of the abuse.
