Canadian planning a NorthWest/Western USA road trip. Any recommendations? Looking for an 'off the beaten path' style trip.
Budget: $2k CDN
Time: 14-15 days
Planning on camping as much as possible
So far I'm looking at going:
Winnipeg, MB, Canada (departure), through the CDN prairies to
Spokane, WA
Salem, OR
Eureka, CA
Barstow, CA
Reno, NV
Twin Falls, ID
Great Falls, MT
Fargo, MN
Winnipeg, MB, Canada
As just a general guide. I'm looking for scenic drives, vast expanse (cannot wait to drive through the Cali desert), and very off-the-beaten-trail type locations. Anything that passes by 'Old America' would be great. Not terribly interested in the typical major attractions, looking for just plain interesting or quirky places. The lesser-known the better.
Particular points of interest are I-33 in CA, the Tail of the Dragon in WA, and any other 'fun' roads.
If anybody has any suggestions, please feel free! Thanks.
