First ever solo trip, going to Colombia. Need some advice please.
Hi guys. I have decided to go solo travelling for the first time ever. I haven't been abroad much in the past few years, so I am a little apprehensive, especially as it will be my first time travelling on my own.I am looking to visit Colombia in late Aug/early Sept. I have been considering making Medellin (preferably Laureles, if not elsewhere) my base, then travelling to Bogota/Cali/Cartagena from there if and when I want to.However, I am a little nervous about other aspects too, including my Spanish. My spanish isn't that good. I am currently learning tidbits and improving, but not sure how good I can get in that amount of time. Any recommendations for language resources?As for my budget. I have a open budget really, but I'd say my budget would be (not including flights and accommodation) around £1500-£2000 ($1800-$2500) and I would prefer to stay in my own apartment if possible, rather than a hostel. I have been looking at airbnbs and most are reasonably priced. I would ideally like to stay close(ish) to the main shopping centres and bars/clubs/restaurants etc, but don't mind travelling in a little by taxi if needs be.I don't party or drink much at all to be honest. I am more of a history and sightseeing buff. I will likely go dancing or drinking at some point though. I can generally meet people fairly easy when I want, so meeting people (even if non-locals) shouldn't be a problem for me while there. I would like to meet locals though, it's kind of something I enjoy doing. It would be nice to learn about the culture and lives from locals themselves, although making sure not to be taken advantage of is important too, so meeting genuine people is for sure crucial.Honestly, I don't know what else to put so I will just leave this here and hope you guys can give me some more advice that could really help me out.
