About one year ago I have posted about my new app, Weather on the Way. The app combines weather and navigation to show you a forecast for your road trip route, exactly at the time you will be driving through.

Thanks to you, it’s been a great success, with 50k downloads since launch and great feedback (4.7 stars from over thousand ratings). It was also featured in multiple publications like iMore, techaradar, 9to5mac, tomsguide and even in a print magazine in the UK. It could not have happen without reddit, your feedback and encouragement! Thank you very much!
Today I wanted to show you a new update, 1.5. It adds major new features:
- Siri Shortcuts support: From the beginning I wanted to include a way for the user to check the weather while they are driving. However, as it’s also a time that you absolutely should not use your phone, I had to get creative*. By adding a Siri Shortcut, all you need to do is to say “Hey Siri, weather ahead” and Siri will tell you the forecast out loud, with warnings if there are any in effect. - iPad support - with bigger space for the user interface, it’s much easier to plan a bigger road trip and check weather timeline and alerts, side by side with the main map. Here is how it looks like
- New departure time slider - you can easily adjust the time of departure by sliding you finger, making it very easy to find the best time to leave: gif
- There are also some smaller improvements, like setting speed factor for slower vehicles, showing precipitation probabilities when radar is active, bug fixes and more

I want to be transparent, so there are some additional Pro features, unlocked with one time payment or subscription, depending on your preference. You also get Pro for free on your first 5 day trips.
*You will probably ask, “what about CarPlay”. Unfortunately, after talks with Apple’s CarPlay team, they have declined to allow the app on the CarPlay system. The apps need to neatly fit into the categories they have, like music control or turn by turn navigation, and my app does not neatly belong in any of these. Hopefully they will change their mind about it in the future.
