Boston -> SW Colorado advice?
Hi everyone!
I’m relocating for work within the next month and will be driving out to Durango from the Boston area.
Right now I’m thinking about doing the southernmost route on this map solo over the course of about a week. I just drove back east last month via the quicker route through Nebraska and I would rather not repeat that drive.
Any advice for this trip? I’m thinking about bypassing Albuquerque and stopping in to visit family in Santa Fe, then continuing up 84 to 160 rather than driving 550 (adds about two hours, but seems much more scenic).
I like driving in the mountains and want to get out and do a little hiking to stretch the legs, but I’m concerned about leaving all of my worldly belongings in my car so I probably won’t do anything too crazy. I’ll save Great Sand Dunes for later since that’ll basically be spitting distance from my new home.
I’ve heard Amarillo TX is pretty interesting. Anything going on in Oklahoma? Arkansas? My close friends just moved to NYC so I want to see them too, but again, concerned about having all of my stuff in my car and making too many stops/covid. I also don’t really like driving in the city.
Anyways, I would love to source tips from the collective conscious! I appreciate your help!
I plan on just sleeping in my car or finding some BLM land to camp along the way.
