Advice on safety when making emergency nap stops?
Did not know what to title this post, but I'm talking about those times when you think you can do ______ hours of driving then suddenly hit a wall. I've had that happen a few times with no obvious stopping point close by and I never quite know what to do except struggle along.
In those situations, what's your safest bet? As a woman, I'm mainly concerned about safety when sleeping in my car, even for short amounts of times. So far I'm thinking trunk stops or possibly large grocery stores? I've heard some mixed things about rest stops so I try to avoid those.
I'll be driving from Las Vegas to Newport, OR in about 2 weeks. I've done the drive before, and I've done several road trips that included 12ish hours of driving straight, several days in a row. Typically I camp overnight, but I'll be on a time crunch for this trip. I'll be starting my drive at night (after sleeping in!) so that when the driving fatigue hits, the morning sun will wake me up a bit, but I'm also planning for the eventuality that I'll need a nap at some point.
