Toronto -> Vancouver Cost Estimate?
Hey guys, my friend and I are heading to Vancouver from Toronto this summer. I have made a cost estimate for our trip, and I was wondering if some of you had any comments, suggestions, or things I forgot
Overview of the trip:
- Toronto -> Batchawana Bay Provincial Park -> Terrace Bay -> Kakabecka Falls -> Qu'Appelle River -> Banff -> Vancouver -> Seattle -> Mt Rushmore -> Michigan -> Toronto (bold ones are important, rest are basically stops/fillers/undecided).
- Total distance: 8,884 KMs
- Date: Friday, July 3 to July 24-27
- 2 people going. Only I have a driving license.
- Taking my car (2019 Hyundai Elantra 4dr sedan).
Fuel Costs:
- the car does ~10km/L
- assuming 1L = $1.15 (price here in Toronto)
- TOTAL = $1,021
Service Required:
- Once every 6,000 KM, so once
- TOTAL = $50
Car Insurance: $200
The equipment we will need to buy:
- Cooler ($30)
- Car jumper ($90)
- Automatic air compressor ($50)
- Tire pressure gauge ($18)
- Bug spray ($10)
- 2 crates of water ($5)
- Roadside emergency kit ($50)
- TOTAL = $253
Sleeping Situation: we plan to sleep in the car or camp at RV stop places. But realistically, we will get tired, so I will say $300 total for cheap motels?
- TOTAL = $300
Grand Total: $1,824 , so basically $2K
I have planned this in a very brute force method. Of course, we will take some detours, skip some stops, the trip might take longer, etc. I am the most unsure of the gas cost estimate (because I'm not even accounting for air conditioning in the car, electricity used by devices, etc).
So guys, what am I missing? What am I calculating wrong? This is my first time planning a trip this big so I don't really know anything, so anything is appreciated.
