First Time Solo'er - Advice Needed - South America/Southeast Asia

OK so here goes, I'm trying to plan my first ever solo trip but I need some advice. It would be for 2-3 months and originally I had thought of maybe hitting South America (tentatively Colombia > Ecuador > Peru > Bolivia) but anxiety/apprehension about the idea has well and truly set in for several reasons but mostly because I don't know any Spanish, like zero, zilch.......nada. I only speak English, based in Europe.

This would no doubt make the various necessities like figuring your way around cities, transit between towns, border crossings, finding places to stay etc etc all the harder.......as well as generally staying safe. Add in to the mix that I'm quite introverted and anxious by nature and it makes for strong feelings that perhaps it might be a little too much to bite off for a first-time "extended" solo excursion.

I should also add that while I definitely want an adventure, I also want at some point to just switch off and relax for a week or two and have a break from being "always on" planning logisitics, itineraries, security as a solo traveler must. And I say I plan on this being included in the trip even before the the inevitable bought of travel fatigue & loneliness comes at some point. Reason being I've quit my job and am in need of a holiday as well as the adventure to try and gain perspective. Think something along the lines of a relaxing sun holiday or some such wedged into the middle of all the moving around.

So this has led me to perhaps moving towards southeast asia as a destination (Thailand > Vietnam > Laos/Cambodia > Vietnam > Indonesia/Bali/Borneo very tentatively). The reasons being that it's still far enough away to feel like an adventure and there's plenty to see and do there too. I should stress that I'm more interested in the sights and moving around than partying i.e. not going for the full-moon parties. While I obviously won't know the local languages there either, I get the impression that they're much more accessible and navigable for English speakers as well as generally an easier & safer overall destination for the novice backpacker. And well if it gets too much then I can just hop on a plane to Bali and chill in a more touristy fashion for a bit before I decide whether to continue or not.

So yeah.....I'm sure I'm over thinking things as I generally do but I'd appreciate any advice from more knowledgeable people that might be able to tell me if any of this has any grounding whatsoever.

M/late twenties for what it's worth and would be going with a hostel/backpackers general budget.

EDIT: Wow, way longer than intended. TL;DR: First time solo travel, would southeast asia be a better destination than south america for someone inexperienced and with zero Spanish?
