New tip
I travel several thousand miles a year pulling a horse trailer. Twice in the past 2 years my check engine light came on the day before I was to return home. Both times I took my 2011 Chevy 3500 duramax to the local dealer and simply asked them to plug in their computer and tell me the code. Both times the dealership gave me a real hard time and said I had to leave the truck. I couldn’t leave my horse and they didn’t seem to care. After complaining and one time getting into a yelling match, I got my error codes. I called my trustworthy mechanic at home and they believed I would be fine getting home before I fixed the truck. The last dealer told me, after a screaming incident, that I could go down the road to O’Riley’s Auto parts and they would run my code for me. Now I know.
