Looking for recommendations/advice for a 2-month roadtrip to Alaska
I have my summer's off from work, so I use them to travel. I've gone on some pretty epic multi-month roadtrips all over the contiguous US, but have never made it up to Alaska, so I'm thinking of trying to tackle it this next summer (2020). I know this trip will be a bit more involved than an average road trip, so I'm looking for any advice on places to visit/what routes to take/any other things to be aware of.
Some quick details
- I will be leaving from/returning to the Detroit, MI area
- I have 3.5 months max to be on the road, though will probably only do 1.5-2. I am off work starting in early May and return to work in mid to late August.
- In terms of lodging I expect some combination of car camping, couch-surfing, and a couple smaller backpacking trips interspersed throughout.
- Currently drive a 2010 Honda Insight so no off-roading or extremely primitive roads (although she handles dirt roads and two tracks just fine)
Again, this is just kind of preliminary planning and getting a general idea of if it's a possibility, so all feedback/recommendations/advice is welcome. Thanks!
