Advice on how to maximize your experience yet save money at the same time?
I’m doing a twelve day New England road trip(leaving from Chicago) by myself, and while I have the funds necessary, I’m very money-conscious and feel guilty when I spend a lot of money. I’ve loosely added up the cost of gas, tolls, hotels, food, and recreation and it’s coming out to be around $2300. To me that seems like a million bucks, but I don’t know if that’s the case or if that’s actually relatively cheap. What do you guys think?
Also, any advice on how I can save money overall? Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
-For food, I’m going to rely on hotel breakfast and snacks/meals I bring from home for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Dinners I was going to allot $10-15ish/day most days.
-Recreation I’m mainly doing free things like hiking. I know some parks have entrance fees which I’ve anticipated.
I really need the most help on hotels. I’ve found some decently priced ones for my overnighters in places, but I’m having the most trouble with hotels in Bar Harbor, ME and Boston, MA. I’ll be in those two cities the most but the cheapest hotel I can find that’s of decent quality is like $150/night. Is that actually a good deal?
I know that this trip will be worth every penny and I won’t regret it, but I would definitely feel a little better if I could cut the cost down even by $100.
