Central Europe 5 weeks

Planning first major trip in years and first time on the continent of Europe as an adult. I'm 35, male, Canadian, very interest in all points in history, but especially WWII/Cold War. Museums involving that kind of stuff interest me, but I'm not sure I'd want to see more than one or two art museums. Definitely want to sample the local nightlife where it's lively and am still lucky enough to be able to function on 4-5 hours of sleep. However, I'm hoping to budget enough time to allow for the possibility that I'll be rather slow moving some mornings! I'm good with a little light hiking during the day, but I'm not in the best physical shape so a lot of walking is realistically my limit for activity level.*Leave Canada (Dec 13)*Berlin (Dec 14-18) - Heart of Gold*Dresden (Dec 19-20) - Lollis homestay*Prague (Dec 21-25) - Roadhouse*Ostrava (Dec 26-Jan 5 for hockey tournament - fixed)*Vienna (Jan 6-9) - Ruthensteiner*Budapest (Jan 10-13) - Retox*Night train to Krakow (Jan 14)*Krakow (Jan 15-18) -Greg & Tom's Hostel*Fly home (Jan 19)Should be able to fit in day trip to Brno and Olomouc out of Ostrava, and definitely want to stop in Saxon Switzerland and do a day trip to the Danube Valley to see a bit of Europe outside of cities. Will be traveling overland between all cities once I land. Time is the constraint for me rather than budget; have budgeted $8,000 with the hope of staying way under. I'm anticipating the possibility of snow, but, as a pretty accident-prone guy, am wondering how effective the various cities are at keeping ice off the sidewalks.I'm treating this as a rough guideline; I wouldn't be devastated to skip Dresden if I ended up loving Berlin and not finding 5 nights enough, or leaving Vienna early if I got bored, for example. As much as I'd love to stop off, I've been explicitly told in no uncertain terms by a very understanding partner that the UK, France, Italy, and Romania are not in the cards for me this trip as she wishes to visit those places with me in the future. I would absolutely love to work in Kiev if it makes sense to do so without rushing the rest of the trip. That being said, if there's anything I really should add, subtract, substitute, extend, or shorten, I'd love to know. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2JymUv7
