A reminder to know your limits when you solo travel

So after my last Japan trip, I subsequently had days of body pain, dizziness, and sickness. These were all completely avoidable had I just accepted that the stuff I did were way beyond the limits I already had.Just two examples:Hostels - These are great for most people and can even initiate some good social encounters. The PROBLEM for me was that my spine operation could not handle the thin mattresses that generally come with hostels, and I booked with supposedly already one of the top hostels in Fukuoka. The Hatago Tenjin hostel, despite my body pain from the thin mattress, was mostly a great place to stay. The managers were very accommodating, the location was great, and the facilities were mostly complete aside from the microwave which was broken when I was there. It was unfortunate that I couldn't really enjoy any of it due to my back.Went overboard with Ainoshima - the island is most well known for having an abundance of friendly cats laying around the town. However, I saw that the town had a walking map to it's various landmarks throughout the island, and I chose to try to see it for myself since I was there already.Huge mistake on my part. My spine condition and poor physical fitness was not prepared at all for the long 2 hour uphill downhill climb throughout the island. Went though the whole thing without any drink. This resulted in my dizziness lasting for over a month and some non-stop coughing. So TL;DRNothing wrong with exploring outside of your comfort zone, but make sure to know your own limits and not to go to extremes that your body cannot handle. via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2XF5dzc
