17F Going on my first solo trip to Montreal in August!

I'm currently 17 and turning 18 exactly one month from today, from New Jersey near Philadelphia. I'm currently on a Canadian cruise with my family (we visited Maine, St. John NB, and Halifax), and although it was enjoyable and I'm glad I got to experience some new things, God I just want to be ALONE. I even tried to get off the boat alone in Halifax and explore the city by myself (which my parents were completely okay with) and they turned me back because I am 17 and 11 months old and not yet 18.I don't hate my family or anything, but I am SO sick of being tethered to them. I cannot wait to experience the liberation and excitement that comes with being by myself and going to a new place. My family literally argues 24/7 and it makes trips really not enjoyable. I have gone on trips to Canada, Chicago and California with my high school before and those were WAY more enjoyable than having to travel with my bickering family, but I still abhorred having to adhere to strict rules and not being able to venture off as I so pleased. I am working 40 hours a week in July to fund this trip and will have saved about $2k by the time August hits. I have already planned much of my trip (Staying in M Montreal, taking the Adriondack Amtrak train from NYC to Montreal), but I have not yet sprung it on my father and my mom thinks he is going to be LIVID. Oh well, I'm going.I am going on the trip for about 10-11 days right before I move into college in Atlanta. I keep reading all of the posts here about experiences and oh my God am I excited. Finally.I guess I'm just posting this as a rant or something. Does anyone have any advice for first-time, young, female travelers? Any recommendations for what to do in Montreal? I would love to hear it! via /r/solotravel https://ift.tt/2ZNQu6r
