texas recommendations and beyond that starting point?
Going to be in Texas at end of mid-June. Starting point is in Houston, then have to rent a car and go up to Fort Worth area to visit family. Form there anything is possible...
So we're wondering what's neat to check out in/around Houston, and between Houston and Forth Worth area? I can't leave without trying the Viet-Cajun food.
Are the beaches worth going to?
Then we're thinking we might turn back around and go to Austin as a stopping point before going to Big Bend. Anything on those routes to check out?
We are earthy crunchy people who love the outdoors, hiking, camping, and cutlural and historical significances. No amusement parks for us. Most of our previous trips have been in national/state parks and forests, volunteering on a paleontological dig, eating our way through cities, kayaking, surfing, biking, fly fishing and the like. We'll just have our big packs and probably camping supplies.
Further, I'm curious if it's worth heading to New Mexico (via plane) and exploring more stuff there instead (with rental car of course). Options are pretty open. Been to Oklahoma and not really interested in going again.
