Need advise on planning a cross-US road trip, maybe a partner

Greetings, I’m a Boston based computer science student [22M], and I’m expecting to graduate college in May. Here to look for some advice on planning a reasonable road trip itinerary so that I won't die driving.

**Backstory:**

Most of my life revolves around building software, the gym, music and local hikes. I opted to stay in an apartment when I started college and have been feeling that I’ve missed out on the traditional college experience. For once, I’ve decided I need to take a break, and just enjoy and experience life before I start working in July and heading into the new chapter of my life.

I’m finishing a year early, and most of the people I know are either from work or are still in school, and they will be working or going to summer school during the summer. After a few of “that sounds awesome, but…”, I'm thinking FUCK IT, I'll go by myself, life is too short to be sitting around and waiting for other people.

**Possible destinations:**

I do not yet have a concrete plan, but a few of the destinations I would really enjoy visiting are Chicago, South Dakota, Las Vegas (Arizona in general, definitely the Grand Canyon), LA, New Orleans, Miami.

I enjoy mountain climbing, swimming in natural springs, paddling through valleys, visiting natural parks. On the flip side, I’m also into thrilling activities like bungee jumping, paragliding (maybe parachuting? Need to work my way there). I feel like I enjoy food more than the average human, I'll eat any kind of food and in large amounts, so foodie destinations are always good.

**Questions:**

The mighty Redditors, how should I plan my itinerary so that I can get the most out of a 1-month road trip? what are some good places to visit based on my description of myself? What cities should I avoid? General tips are always appreciated.

P.S. Feel free to send me a message if you want in on this.
