How do you get off the beaten path?
Hey. I'll be spending 2 months in southeast asia, and while I intend to do very my fair share of typical partying and sightseeing, I'm more into hiking and adventuring. I keep hearing stories about people visiting small villages and such, but I'm not really sure how to do it.
I know many people rent a motorcycle and just drive around which is obviously a great way of exploring different places. I never rode a motorcycle in my life though and don't feel like dying in a crash while riding without a license.
For someone who is limited to public transportation and walking, is this possible to do? I don't really know anything about the public transportation trails in these places. If so, do you research places beforehand or do you just hop on a random bus and hope to end up in a cool little town?
