27m going to NYC for the week of memorial day - advice on nightlife and meeting people?
I've done a few solo trips (Berlin/Vienna/Prague/Amsterdam/Barcelona/Madrid) but was always staying in hostels, so it was very easy to meet people.
In about a month I'll be going to New York City and staying in the bronx (at a friend's place, but he's likely out of town that week). I have a few things on the itinerary already, but I'm looking to meet some people and maybe go to some bars/clubs/breweries/etc. with them.
Currently on the Itinerary:
- Central Park
- Highline
- Comedy Cellar / Comedy Clubs
- Museum(s) (Whitney/etc.)
I already visited New York once when i was much younger (13 or so) with family. We went to the Statue of Liberty/Times Square/Empire State Building/etc. so a lot of the touristy stuff i feel like i can pass on.
Other than that, I plan on doing a lot of wandering around different neighborhoods, taking the subway, getting a feel for the city, and hopefully meeting some people. I'd also like to go out to bars and clubs at night, and it would be nice if i could meet some people to go with. I don't have the crutch of a hostel, and i don't really have any friends in the city i can dependably rely on to hang out, so i'll probably be on my own to meet people around the city.
I'd appreciate any general tips for things to do in New York for a week - either in Manhattan or the Bronx where i'm staying. I'm also looking for advice on nightlife in the city - specifically to a solo traveler who isn't staying in a hostel.
Much thanks in advance!
