Budget Hostel travelers - how do you visit national parks?
Hello all. My method of traveling thus far as been to find a cheap flight, a cheap hostel, and walk or take public transportation everywhere. I'm reticent to even use Lyft.
However, having seen a handful of cities this way, I've been itching to visit some of our wonderful national parks! The problem is they seem designed for road trips and that's just not a possibility for me.
In particular right now I'm trying to plan a rail trip through Glacier and then Seattle/Vancouver, Olympic and Mt. Rainer. I might be lucky enough to find a hostel or motel (< $40/night) in the towns outside of these parks, but I don't believe there is any transportation into or out of them. At this point my only bright idea is to try hitchhiking in.
So has anyone visited these (or any) parks sans car? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
