26F Solo Trip to Guatemala

Hi! As the title suggests, I’m a 26F heading to Guatemala for a solo trip in May. I’ll be going to Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and Flores/ Tikal.

Here is my tentative plan:

5/10: Arrive in GC and head to Antigua (staying at an Airbnb), settle in, explore Antigua if I have enough time

5/11: Pacaya Volcano, explore Antigua after

5/12 (Sunday): Head to Chichi Market and head to Lake Atitlan from Chichi (I'm not sure where to stay in Lake Atitlan. I was thinking about Lush but I am terrified of spiders and scorpions... Any suggestions on a place that won't have critters?)

5/13: Explore Lake Atitlan

5/14: Thinking about taking an overnight bus to Flores but I've heard horror stories about the bus. I looked at how long it would take to shuttle from Panajachel to GC and then fly to Flores, and it would take me an entire day. Do you guys think it's worth flying? I also haven't figured out a place to stay in Flores either

5/15: If taking the overnight bus, arrive, rest up, explore Flores

5/16: Sunrise tour in Tikal

5/17: Thinking about taking an overnight bus to GC to arrive the morning of my flight but same issue as above

5/18: Flight out of GC at noon

Interests:

Nature/ sights: I definitely plan on doing the Pacaya Hike. I'm not really sure what to do in Lake Atitlan. I do enjoy hiking and nature, but I also want to balance in some relaxation.

Food: I love to eat. When I travel, I especially enjoy trying local food. I'm very adventurous with food and will eat just about anything.

Culture: I love being able to immerse myself in different cultures.

Budget: I'm hoping to not spend over $400 during my time there - so for food, bus, uber, shuttles, souvenirs, hikes, etc. Does that sound reasonable? If I end up flying to/ from Tikal, I'll definitely have to increase that.

Safety: Any tips on safety? I’m Asian so I will definitely stand out. I did a solo trip to Cuba last fall and overall felt very safe, but I've heard Guatemala may not be as safe. There was A LOT of catcalling which I'm assuming will be similar in Guatemala. I usually just ignore, avoid eye contact, and keep walking. I don't plan on being out at night, but I'm hoping being out during the day in busy areas won't be an issue. I also speak basic Spanish, enough that it got me around Cuba which was not very English-friendly so hoping that will help.

This might be a silly question, but would wearing an Apple Watch garner unwanted attention? I do a lot of activity tracking on it but if necessary, I can leave that behind.

Thanks in advance! If you're there during any of those days and would like to meet up, let me know :)
