"Where to begin" advice for a last-minute solo trip
Hi all, I didn't want to post a generic "plan my trip for me" question, but I am a late-20's American guy, who just yesterday had an unexpected job offer come through.
I now have a month off, and I'd like to try to plan an international trip last minute if I can pull it off.
I am pretty inexperienced re: international travel - 2 years ago I went to Colombia for 2 weeks, and aside that I've only left the US for a couple Canada trips.
I truly don't even know where to begin, and am having a very difficult time even knowing what I should prioritize/what I want my experience to be like. And I'm too much of a travel noob to have a backlog of opinions about places/things I want to see.
Basically: WHERE SHOULD I GO?! My (extremely broad) criteria are:
- I'll have ~3 weeks (last day is next week 3/22, need to be back in US by 4/12)
- Leaving from/returning to Chicago
- I'm going to be traveling solo
- I'm probably going to need to be doing like 2-3 hours of work a day on some contract work (so am maybe leaning toward developed-city-oriented travel where it'll be easy to have reliable internet etc, though also into the idea of relaxing beach-type destinations)
Since I've never been to Europe, that seems like an obvious choice. I've thought about Belgium, Poland, Spain/Portugal, and London. Outside of Europe, I've thought about Argentina and Belize.
I really have no idea, and am just looking to hear from people who might have some favorite places they've been that feel like a good fit for this trip. Thanks!
