Updated SEA 2019 Itinerary
I took onboard all of your suggestions and realized you guys were right - I need to choose just a few countries and focus on what I want from the trip. Ideally, I want to minimise the number of flights and use public transport where I can. The itinerary still needs tweaking but suggestions about travel options are more than welcome. I want to see temples, enjoy the local cuisine, take it slow and just take in the sights without stressing so much.
THAILAND: roughly 2 weeks
Bangkok: 3 nights
-Overnight bus to Chiang Mai-
Chiang Mai: 5 nights
-Fly Chiang Mai to Krabi-
Railay Beach: 5 nights
-Fly Krabi back to Bangkok-
-Overnight train from Bangkok to Nongkhai-
-Bus from the border Vientiane’s central bus station-
LAOS: 1 week
Itinerary for the week is undecided at the moment because I don't want to make too many plans ahead of time and just wing it as much as I can, see temples, eat food, wander around, take the bus to a few world heritage sights. I'm open to suggestions.
-Overnight bus from Vientiane to Hanoi-
VIETNAM: roughly 2 weeks
Hanoi: 3 nights. Explore the city, go on walking tours. Eat local food.
-Bus from Hanoi to Halong Bay-
Halong Bay*:* 1 night
-Flight Halong Bay to Da Nang-
Da Nang: 4 nights
-Bus/Train or Flight to Ho Chi Minh City-
Ho Chi Minh City: 5 Nights
-Bus from HCMC to Phnom Penh-
CAMBODIA: roughly 1 week
Phnom Penh: 2 nights
-Bus from Phnom Pen to Siem Reap-
Siem Reap: 3 nights
-Bus from Siem Reap to Sihanoukville-
Koh Rong: 3 Nights
-From Cambodia back to Thailand-
This is what it roughly looks like now, roughly 6 weeks. I may add a couple more weeks because I'll have a lot more free time and I'm happy to take suggestions for things to see and things to do :) please let me know what you think.
