Road trip from Montreal through to Maine and New York - please help us!

Hi everyone!

Thanks firstly for hearing me out on this forum, it is much appreciated. I'm planning a small road trip with some friends in July as we have a wedding in Northport, Maine. We are trying to plan an itinerary but we are all at a bit of a loss. We definitely want to visit Boston and New York but what other stops make sense?

We have two weeks in total and so far the best we have is flying into Montreal, driving south to Burlington, cutting through east for the wedding then driving down through Boston and then flying out of New York.

We are excited for the big cities but also like the idea of driving through and stopping in some of your beautiful national parks (we want to do a hike or two), small towns, etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations regarding routes or stops? We are not totally set on the Montreal part so if anyone has any other suggestions we'd totally be appreciative! Thanks again you guys!
