Northeastern US trip in planning
Been itching to get out and explore more of the country, especially after a great experience I had exploring Philadelphia for a weekend a few years back. I'd attempted to visit Boston a year ago, but plans fell through after it got rained out.
I'm not one to give up, so here we are trying again! But this time I have more time and money at my disposal, so I'm looking to explore New England a bit more properly and weighing a few options. I'm planning to go about a week and sleep in hostels, but I'm looking at options to get around and what destinations I should prioritize.
Boston is the big one for me because it's the one major city I've never really visited before, so I'm planning to spend a day or two there and give it a full look around. My only other real thought was to take the train to Springfield and visit the Six Flags up there (I'm a big coaster fanatic so I'm trying to hit the ones I haven't been to when I can).
From there, I'm weighing several options. One thought is to take the train to NYC, and then to DC. While I've been to both multiple times, I've never really been able to see much more of NYC than a few blocks around Penn Station and Times Square. And DC has so much that I'm bound to find museums and landmarks I haven't explored yet.
I've also debated going further north instead, seeing as I've never been around New Hampshire or Maine, though I can't say I'm really certain how recommended that is. I'm more of a historical kind of guy, I love wandering through parks, battlefields, museums, and the like. I'm especially fond of the lesser seen stuff, such as when I was in Philly and stumbled into the Mütter and their fire station museums.
If anyone has recommendations on the best way to go here, I'd be appreciative of that!
