I'm a guy in pretty decent shape and I am wanting to try out findacrew.net when I eventually make it out to travel in south east Asia (14-26 months from now due to apartment lease timelines/saving money).

A buddy of mine used this website (or told me he was planning to do that) while he was in southeast Asia about 2 years ago, so I reached out to him about it just now, so it's a question I am just now getting to asking.

Full disclosure the only experience I have on a boat is on motor boats on the lakes of Minnesota, which counts for so little compared to what some other boats have done I am sure.

Are these boats usually for long distance voyages? Port hopping? Is it usually something you can just get on/off at pre-agreed to locations? Have you heard of any bad past experiences by anyone using this website/working with a captain? Do you need lots of experience for most boat owners to consider you?
