Preparing for a 1,000+ mile first time solo drive, what else should I do?
This seems like the best subreddit to post this in, so here goes.
I'm preparing for a ~1,050 or so mile road trip from Portland, OR to Apple Valley, CA at the very end of February. I plan on doing a straight-through night drive, Leaving around 6 to 8 PM at the latest here, arriving in apple valley around noon or so including the time spent at rest stops, getting gas, eating, etc. I feel I can do the straight-through drive perfectly fine, and I'll have everything prepared when it comes to sleep and such, my main thing before doing this is making sure my '03 car is up to the trip there, then the trip back a week later.
What I've done in the last 2 weeks: ~ Got all new set-of-4 all season tires ~ Brake pads checked and find that they are in perfect shape. ~ Oil change/new filter. ~ Car seems mechanically sound, no leaks, and no overheating issues.
What else should I do to make sure my car is up for the job? I do have an extra quart of oil in case, and a spare tire/chains in the trunk.
I'll find the night drive nice for one, only because no traffic, and I have 24 hour gas stations already researched, I'll have to learn how to pump gas as I've been in oregon my whole life, but I think that will be pretty easy for me to figure out. I know the night trip won't be too exciting, but I'll have a solid weed down in cali.
Any other advice for this drive?
