Just got back from a 20 day trip for my first time out of the US.
I went to Iceland, Dublin, Hamburg, and Frankfurt with about 5 days each. Traveling alone gave me the flexibility to utilize the cheapest flights and accommodations without much planning so flights, food, copious beers, and many museums cost me only about $2,000. My favorite part was going to grocery stores or just walking around, noticing things that were slightly different. People treat you differently when you are by yourself if you are willing to approach them. Dublin was amazing to meet both locals and visitors, my favorite memory being leaving a bar early morning and seeing a group of punk rock band members and just saying hello and asking if I could join them. They brought me to bar with more music and we connected for a few hours before saying our goodbyes. Temporary friends are great because you don’t have to make compromises on who you are or how you feel because soon you can say your goodbyes and just be vague memories. I’m currently mapping national parks for a road trip and I’m elated.
