Hey everyone! I've never traveled by myself before and have never been outside of the U.S. I feel a lot of anxiety and fears about this. I want a fun, social experience (heard about party hostels--they seem fun) and a generally good time without me worrying about absolutely everything. I would love to go to Austria, Germany, Italy or France.

My main concerns are how to meet people, what do do in places where the native language is different from English, what--in your experience--places are safe to visit, and cool sites that I wouldn't likely find on the homepage for a country's tourist industry.
