Deep fleeting friendships

Im in New Zealand on a working holiday visa, I’ve been here for 3 months so far. This is my first time traveling alone and first time traveling internationally for so long. I’ve traveled once to Spain but with an art class like 8 years ago. What I’m getting at is I really don’t have any experience traveling. I’ve made a few really deep connections with a couple of people and we all just separated ways about 2 weeks ago, but still keep in contact as we all still had a good amount of time left on our visa. I just found out one of them is leaving back to her home country.

How do you not get depressed from realizing that everything is so fleeting? These friendships, I will hopefully see them again someday but they will probably never be the way they were. Im not sure what any of this means or what I’m really supposed to learn from this. It’s really just depressing, connecting with people and then leaving. I’m really sad and I don’t want this to negatively affect my trip here but I’m starting to feel like I won’t be able to make it the whole year here if I keep feeling this way. I rarely connect with people back home so I think it’s just hitting me hard. How do you cope with this stuff?
