A week in Berlin
I'm travelling to Germany for a Uni course for about a month, it's in a little town that isn't really close to much, except Koblenz; so have decided to tack on 7 days / 6 nights in Berlin before commencement of the course. I've never been to Germany before and only really touched on France and spent 8 weeks in London as a kid (am from Australia). Am looking for ideas on what to do in Berlin, so far I have got the following:
- Day trip to Hamburg, train out in the morning, train back in the evening.
- Day trip to Potsdam (paid tour) if this seems suitable?
- Day trip to Dresden (paid tour)
- Ride bike to standard sites (Brandenburg Gate, East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie, Charlottenburg Palace, Reichstag, Kaiser Willhelm Church)
I'm staying in Mitte, right near Museum Island (to the south west) so will probably head over and check that out.
Some other things I enjoy:
- Love German Wine (bring on the Riesling!!!), any recommended wine bars?
- Bit of a foodie, especially Asian food so am going to look out for that. And of course Currywurst....
- Also plan to check out their bouldering gyms (rock climb in my spare time)
Is there anything else in Berlin that I should see before I leave? I was going to check out the night scene and do a little partying but don't really want to spend a day hungover unless I'm strolling through a shopping centre or lazing about in a park or something...
I've also got a transit day either side of the exchange in Frankfurt but I think Romer is the only thing to see there really...?
