[26M} Travelling solo to South America for the first time - help/tips/advice?
Hi all!
I've unexpectedly reached a gap in my career whereby I am going to have 3-4 months of free time, starting from April this year. Instead of looking for temporary work I'd like to use this time to travel on my own for the first time, ideally to South America. Having done some preliminary research, I'd like to visit the following:
- Inca Trail/Macchu Pichu
- Amazon rainforest
- Salt Flats
- Nazca Lines
I have a budget of around 8,000 GBP. If anyone has any experience of doing a similar trip, I wanted to know if this would be realistic given my budget and timings, and if anyone has any tips as to how to organise this. I've been looking at options for booking on to a tour group which would be easier from an organisational standpoint, but I'm slightly put off by the costs and don't like not having the flexibility of going with the flow. Were I to organise the trip myself, where do I start? Apologies if these are really obvious questions, but:
- What is the easiest way to travel internally once in S America?
- How should I go about booking accommodation - should I do as much as I can beforehand, or while I'm there? And excursions?
- Does anyone have any recommended itineraries?
Again, sorry if these questions aren't specific enough but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the information out there, would be great to get some general guidance from those in the know!
