2-Week Vacation in April to either Thailand or Japan for a nature lover / outdoorsman?
Hi! I am trying to decide on whether I should go to Thailand or Japan this coming April. I get a few weeks of PTO each year, and having been solo to Mexico, Peru, and Belize thus far, I thought I'd expand my horizons! On previous travels, I stayed in hostels typically in remote villages and was off the beaten path, so to speak.
I am 26 years old from the southeastern USA, an avid hiker, backpacker, nature & wildlife lover. I am 6'4" Caucasian with blonde hair and blue eyes (sometimes this is relevant?). I have a decent income so my budget will be liberal in either place. I recognize Japan will be more expensive, but offers a bit more refinement and safety along with that. Of course, spending less is ideal in any situation- but I know both destinations have unique elements that could be worth the price points.
Ideally out of this trip, I get to witness some new wildlife (land and marine if time of year permits!), indulge in a substantial dose of culture shock, feel freedom to do what I'd like while having many options, and be able to eat well while having meditative time in nature. Experiential novelty is important to me. I understand both destinations have quite a bit to offer in the sphere of natural phenomena. I don't anticipate safety to be an issue in either place, but I could be wrong.
Any input here would be great. I have read all of the other "Tokyo vs Thailand" travel threads and blog posts, but not many spoke too heavily on the natural side of things.
