17 days in Patagonia - itinerary advice welcome

Next week I head to South America for the first time. I’ll be doing Patagonia as best as I can, starting in El Calafate (this is my 5th fairly big solo trip).

So far my plan is like this:

  • Fly from Buenos Aires to El Calafate
  • El Calafate for 2 days
  • Bus to El Chalten for 3 days/ Hike Fitz Roy etc
  • Head to Puerto Natales/ Torres Del Paine for an afternoon to get camp gear
  • Early morning to hike the W trek in 3/ 4 days
  • Head to Punta Arenas for 2 days (penguins)
  • Finally, go down to Ushuaia for 3 days of hiking/ adventure in Tierra Del Fuego
  • Early morning flight to Buenos Aires on the last day
  • Catch the flight home to the UK on the same day (might try to fly to BA the night before if time allows)

Does anyone have any advice who has done this sort of Patagonia trip before? I’m super excited, and deliberately picked the shoulder season to have a bit more flexibility with my movements and in case the weather isn’t playing ball.

I’m banking on having to dress fairly warm/ waterproof for all the many hikes so I’ve prepared appropriately.

Any help is hugely appreciated! I’ve only booked the first 10 days of camps/ hostels etc as I am unsure if I’ve bitten off more than I can chew in trying to get so far south with the limited time of 17 days.

Cheers!
