Northern Spain/Portugal in July - tips?
I graduate with my MS in mid-June and was thinking of first going to London for a week or two then to Spain & Portugal. I keep hearing July is really hot and there are tons of tourists...I am way over the 'gap year' backpacker scene and instead like to chill and get to know locals, pretend I live there, that type style of travel. So, to do that, I was thinking of going from London to Lisbon, traveling north in Portugal, then the Northern coast of Spain, ending up in Barcelona. Then I will need to end up in Madrid to fly to South America.
My question is - does that route make sense? Is it hard to get around? How much time would you delegate to that? I was thinking 3-4 weeks. I have time but I'm trying to conserve money. I could come back and do Southern/central Spain another time - I just want to have a few less tourists and not fry in the heat.
