Looking for any suggestions
We are going on a road trip. A very ambitious road trip.
Here’s the details:
2 adult women and 5 kids ages 8-11. We have a vehicle to fit everyone legally and safely. Limited trunk space, looking at getting a rooftop cargo carrier.
Starting in Wisconsin, hitting up (in this order) Carlsbad caverns for 3 days, saguaro National Park for 4 days, drive by Grand Canyon (day stop maybe? Is it worth it?) then Utah, arches, canyon lands, Bruce, grand escalate, Zion etc. 6 days total in 3 locations. 2 days in the Rockies. Back home. Like I said, hella ambitious.
AirBnBs already booked for the whole trip occurring end of June early July. We have roadtripped before but with a camper. We are minimalists. Here’s what I want to know.
-movie ideas to keep 5 kids ages 8-11, boys and girls, entertained. We have Netflix so nothing that can easily be found there. (We have a DVD player)
-kids apps to engage them on this road trip. Something other than roblox and Minecraft and Tiktok.
-anything in the mentioned areas we absolutely have to do or absolutely should avoid.
-Foods we absolutely have to try. What’s the best southern food!? My Midwest tastebuds need some excitement!
-best group cartrip games. And not the usuals. We do the license plate game and the alphabet game and we bring along mad libs and play would you rather and the 5 second rule. Any new suggestions to spice things up?
-family friendly podcasts?
-are we absolutely insane?
-budget isn’t really an issue. We’re not millionaires or anything, but we save up for our every other year trips so cashfund is pretty plentiful.
-we are huge on national parks and history. Not zoos or water parks or amusement parks. We have a 4th grader with us and will be taking advantage of the National Park 4th graders get in free thing.
-easy peasy but awesome roadtrip snack ideas or meal ideas? We will have a cooler with us and we usually stop and have a picnic lunch at a rest stop or park.
-will we be in any food deserts? We found ourselves in a food desert in Wyoming and it was awful. We couldn’t get bread or any fresh produce. I want to know if that’s a problem down south. We are absolutely spoiled in Wisconsin with a huge abundance of high quality fresh meats and produce and bakeries. How much should we stock up before we leave?
-any random roadtrip advice or tips for surviving the heat, or anything?
