Weather concerns for a northern cross country trip 1st week of December.

We understand that it'll be cold and some stuff is already closed for winter but we wanted to try and see some of the famous spots (Rushmore, Devils Tower, Badlands, Black Hills, etc). Unfortunately we may need to skip Yellowstone since I understand that most of it closed already.
Definitely won't be trying to get off the beaten path to avoid any additional weather issues.
Do you think its likely we'll hit some trouble spots and should we go a little further south for part of the route? This is roughly a 8 day trip, first week of December. AWD small suv.
Additionally, any apps or websites that you recommend to stay on top of weather/road closures, etc?
