Boys Meet Road: LA to New York (Need Advice)
We're a group 3-4 guys who want to break our road trip virginity. Technically we're not boys, we're in our mid-20s, but in spirit we are. The only "road trip" we've ever done is to San Francisco, but by the time we went there, we bailed in like 10 minutes after having no clue where to go, found it boring compared to LA, and we hated how cramped the streets are. We're stupid, LOL. So in order to avoid that from happening again, I need your help...
Our purpose is to be free, experience the world, take risks, and feel like adventurers. We are dedicating 2-3 weeks to this trip, starting July 7th. We want a scenic + adventurous route. We're using a 2004 Toyota Corolla. We got the budget of a college student, which is like $5-600 each. So ideally we'd like to avoid spending money except at the best places. We got a tent already, and thinking of CouchSurfing. Or using hostels or AirBnB to save on places to stay. May even just sleep in the car on some days.
Here are our questions:
- What route should we take? Preferably avoid the boring states.
- What are the best locations to visit? Except for maybe the Grand Canyon, we know very little about landmarks or places to eat.
- What cheap food items (besides P&J sandwiches) can we have to avoid eating out unless there's a great place to try?
- What's the most affordable yet practical way to lodge / sleep? Where to go? If we can't shower, how do we stay clean?
- For a thrill, are there some creepy places to check out? Yes, we're those cliche idiots from horror movies. We'll be careful though.
- Anything else we should look out for or prepare?
I realize we can just Google Map this, but that's no fun. We'd skip over landmarks because we're clueless.
Thank you for your time :)
