Help! I’m planning a coast to coast US road trip but what route do we take?

Okay so I’m planning a US road trip with 2 girl friends for June/July time next year. We want to start at San Francisco and finish in New York for around 18 days. I’m from the U.K. The main places we’d like to stop are - L.A, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, New Orleans, Texas and then end up in New York. Yosemite would also possibly be on the list too. Question is do we do Tennessee and Chicago? Or do we go down to Miami from Texas and get an internal flight to New York. What kind of time frame would we need for each place? How much time would we spend driving? If any of you have done this trip any info or advice would be greatly appreciated! Also one last question - where would be the best place to spend 4th July? Thanks in advance!
